Hope for Liberia Outreach
Liberia (officially referred to as the Republic of Liberia), is a country on the West African coast. Liberia means "Land of the Free." It is bordered by Sierra Leone to its west, Guinea to its north and Ivory Coast to its east. In 1980, a military coup overthrew the government marking the beginning of political instability. By 2003, war resulted in over 1/2 million deaths (over 10% of the population). Children were forced into the military conflict. Bridges, electrical distribution, water purification, hospitals, rail lines and communication facilities were destroyed. A peace agreement in 2003 led to democratic elections and the first female president, Harvard trained economist, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was elected in 2005. While recovering from the 15-year civil war, any progress was destroyed by the deadly Ebola virus, which originated in the Guinea in December 2013 and entered Liberia in March 2014.
The Hands of Hope Foundation is heading out for its 7th Liberian Outreach from February 8th - 29th and March 24th - April 4th. Hands of Hope is about offering Hope in Christ according to 1 Peter 3:15 by striving to be ambassadors of Christ in both word and deed. Hands of Hope is partnering with Christian Life Church to launch a three-faceted initiative involving:
1. Drinking Water
2. Partnering with Professional Educators
3. Agricultural Initiatives.
Team 1 leaves the US February 18th and returns on February 29th - Medical Focus
Team 2 leaves the US February 25th and returns on March 7th - Agricultural Focus
Team 3 leaves the US March 24th and returns on April 4th - Education and Shallow Wells Focus
